Concerned Viewer Alerts HGTV Host To A Lump On His Neck

"Flip or Flop" is a popular home improvement show on HGTV, hosted by 32-year-old Tarek El Moussa and his wife, Christina. Fans love Tarek, but never did he expect one of them would help save his life.

Earlier this year, a woman named Ryan was watching a marathon day of season one when she noticed a lump on Tarek's neck. Ryan, 31, is a registered nurse who found the lump extremely disconcerting. Instead of attempting to write to Tarek (to avoid coming across as a "crazy" fan) she searched online until she found his production company's email address. She wrote to the team behind "Flip or Flop" and advised them to encourage Tarek to see a doctor immediately.

Tarek heeded Ryan's advice, and it was perfect timing. He realized he'd been having a harder time swallowing lately, and that the lump was getting bigger. After going to the same doctor twice, he decided to get a second opinion. A biopsy then revealed the devastating truth.

Ryan Read, a 31-year-old registered nurse, was home watching a marathon of "Flip or Flop" when she noticed something that stopped her dead in her tracks — a lump on Tarek's neck, down below his Adam's apple.

Ryan immediately found contact info for the "Flip or Flop" production company. She sent an email saying she noticed a large nodule on Tarek thyroid, and he needed a doctor to check it immediately.

As it turned out, Tarek had cancer. After undergoing surgery to remove the tumor, he and his wife appeared on "The Doctors" to discuss their experience — and how a kindhearted nurse who loves their show potentially saved his life.
