With a lack of space for living room blanket and pillow storage — as well as limited sofa seating — this DIY-er decided to create a one-of-a-kind storage ottoman that was soft enough to sprawl out on.
They began the base of the ottoman using plywood and pine boards.
This Instructables user writes, "I wrapped the outer side of the box with batting, folded it over the top and bottom edges, and secured with staples."
They added a wooden divider to the bottom of the ottoman, before covering the batting with cotton fabric. They write that the fabric was necessary "because the coffee bags have a very open weave that you can see through."
This DIY-er added an extremely unique touch by utilizing four coffee bean sacks from Colombia.
This Instructables user writes, "I wanted to use the stripe along the sides of the ottoman, so I sliced the bags open and used the best arrangement of the motif and printing."
This DIY-er then lined the inside of the ottoman with shiny black fabric, adding a layer of cardboard on the bottom and stapling the edges of the fabric to the wood underneath.
They then installed a leg plate to each bottom corner and screwed lovely wooden legs into each of them.
For the ottoman lid, this DIY-er covered some plywood with batting before wrapping the whole thing in fabric.
They then attached the ottoman cover to the base using "a 30-inch piano hinge and two safety hinges at the sides."
Small studding detail provided a lovely finishing touch around the corner of the coffee sack base.
The final product provided an incredible rustic element to the living room while still remaining functional.
This Instructables user writes, "The weekend project gave us great storage and tripled the sofa sprawl capability."
This coffee sack ottoman truly is a one-of-a-kind DIY project!
