If you could skip work and escape to any place in the world, where would it be?
Some might say a big city like New York or Paris. Others might choose to sink their feet in the sand of a tropical paradise — such as this magical island inhabited only by happy pigs!
If you were to ask me where I'd most like to escape for a weekend of rest and relaxation, I'd say a cabin in the mountains.
And brilliantly, a Missouri company called Custom Container Living specializes in building small, comfortable cabins that just about anyone can afford… but they don't build them out of logs.
Using old shipping containers as the foundation, this company offers 20-foot and 40-foot custom-built cabins that are amazingly rustic and comfy inside. And you can put them just about anywhere!

When viewing the cabin from the outside, its long, rectangular shape is the only clue that it used to be a shipping container.
Once the container has been cleaned and sealed, it's covered with one of several types of siding.
Since this one was destined to be a cabin, the company chose a lovely wood siding in a golden-brown color.
Step through the front door of this 215-square-foot cabin, and you'll immediately find yourself in the center of a cozy living room.
There's no miniature furniture here — just a couch, a flat screen television mounted on the wall, and lots of conveniently located storage space.
Behind the couch is a full-size window so the cabin is filled with lots of natural light.
Did we mention this shipping container cabin has wood floors throughout? How luxurious!
Moving from the living room into the kitchen you will see ample cabinet space, a sink, microwave, and stove, and even a fold-down breakfast table.
There's a two-burner cooktop that can be put away when not in use, a stainless steel top freezer/refrigerator, and even a washer and electric ventless dryer.
This tiny home is much nicer than the cabins you may have stayed in at summer camp.
This shipping container cabin also features a staircase (with built-in storage underneath the steps) that leads to the lofted bedroom above.
The loft has ample electrical outlets, cubbies for storage, and four more windows to let in the light.
The loft can accommodate a queen-size bed and even has another flat screen TV.
This is the perfect space for curling up with a cup of cocoa and a good movie!
According to Custom Container Living, all of their cabins are low-maintenance, highly resistant to weather and insects, and built to be transported to wherever your own personal paradise might be.
"Because they are 8-foot wide, they are not considered an ‘oversize load’, making shipping costs less than moving a conventional building," explains the company website.
And if you're wondering how much a cabin like this would set you back, you might be surprised to learn that this custom house sells for $34,000!
