Bosses Reveal The Crazy Reasons They Had To Fire Someone On The First Day

We have all had bad days on the job. Maybe even some of us have had such a bad day that we got fired. But to get fired on the very first day? That takes a skill level that I don't even know if I can match.

Reddit users have recently been posting their horror stories of employees they had to fire on their first day of work. And this isn't just a case of employers being too picky or demanding. These employees legitimately deserved to be fired. In a couple cases, I'm surprised the police weren't called!

At least I can rest assured that even on my worst day, I'll never pull something like these terrible workers who didn't even make it 24 hours. Scroll through below to see 15 of the absolute worst first-day firing stories — as funny as they are, these bosses were definitely not laughing.

"My boss fired an 18 year-old kid from his first job on his first day because he left the water running on the floor scrubber when he went to break. Aisle 5 was a swimming pool before anyone noticed." — Acholous_Cognoscente

"Hired a girl to fire watch, which is where you literally sit still and make sure nothing sets fire while someone welds. Easiest job in the world. This girl gets five minutes into her first job, lays down on the ground, and goes to sleep. Not like she dozed off, she rolled up her jacket as a pillow and everything. On the ground. In the dirt. In the middle of our mill." — the_might_moon_worm

"I managed a bookstore that had an auxiliary calendar kiosk at the other end of the shopping center. Hired a woman to man it, did her morning training, left her alone for a bit. Went back to check on her and found half the calendars stolen and her asleep behind the curtains we used to hide back stock." — BookerDeWittsCarbine

"I hired someone to write about cars for a website I was editing. The very first piece of copy he turned in on his very first day…was a plagiarized copy of something I had written two years prior. I just sent him a link to my original piece that he plagiarized, and never heard from him again." — harshcougar

"This kid came in for his first shadowing with me and we were headed to a nicer event, one which required we wear nicer attire. He'd been asked by my editor not to wear jeans or shorts but to dress business casual: slacks and at least a nice button-up shirt or polo. Well, he showed up late, and he showed up in jeans and flip flops." — fatbabyotters
