Man Who Knows Nothing About Dogs Finds Sick Pup, Asks Internet For Help To Keep Her Alive

Many of us already know the joys of owning a dog. Dogs can be wonderful companions when we need them and help keep feelings of loneliness at bay. But sometimes dogs decide who their family is. Quite often, they seek us out when they're struggling.

That seems to be the case of what happened to a poor pup who was first mentioned on a Resetera thread. Resetera user Solace posted their story on the site, and others quickly fell in love with the dog that Solace found.

"So about three days ago I found a sick dog in the hallway of the building my dentist was at," Solace wrote. "He is about 2 months old, with severe scabies and unfortunately, Parvovirus."

"This is the first time I am interacting this much with a dog," Solace wrote. "Took him to the vet and they shaved his hair, washed him, and gave him appropriate medicine and stuff. He was kind of OK, then the next day, he had bloody diarrhea and refused to eat or drink anything. I tested all possible food options but he just won't."

It seemed like the pup had gone through quite a lot.

Despite not knowing too much about dog care, Solace seemed to do their best. The pup was just deteriorating before their eyes. "Vet checked him again and confirmed the poor guy has the parvovirus. In the past two-three days, I have been giving him meds and minerals, and other needed stuff via IV three times a day and took him to the vet every day, but unfortunately, he keeps getting weaker and weaker," they said.

"Just now I gave him his last IV but he is in his worst physical condition right now and honestly, I am not sure if he'll pull through tonight or not," Solace continued. "I had to hold his hand straight for 20 minutes so the injections would continue to run through his veins and I am bummed. The poor thing is so weak he couldn't hold his head up. I am not sure what to do anymore, the vet also said all we could do is to wait and hope for the best."

But the pup seemed to improve.

The dog, whom Solace has yet to name, ended up getting better. And more posters on the Resetera forum started paying attention. The dog was still having issues with eating and drinking that next day, but its spirits were up. And Solace realized "he" was actually biologically a "she."

"I have never had a pet dog," Solace admitted. "I am not entirely sure what I am going to do with her. I am currently [working from home], so I can help her out but I am probably going to keep her. Right now I am just hoping for her to pull through, fingers crossed. She is doing fine btw for now, currently sleeping."

Despite Solace never owning a dog before, it seemed as if this one stole their heart. The dog had no idea that after being found, she'd have a forum full of supporters from all over the world. But that's what dogs do sometimes — they find ways to unite us.

After the first update, people admitted they expected much worse.

After seeing the pup in such bad condition, many feared that she wouldn't pull through. But this dog beat the odds. "The photo breaks my heart," wrote Joe1138. "Please continue to keep us posted and share more photos of your girl as she gets better. I'm sure we'd all love to see it." Joe also talked about his own experience with dog ownership. "I just became a dog owner for the first time in my life back in December," he said. "Can't tell you how much it's changed my life, and all for the better. There's going to be some ups and downs, especially with a rescue such as yours but it'll all be worth it. You'll probably end up finding you need her just as much as she needs you."

Solace then shared an update that showed the pretty pup with her IVs. Already, she was looking a lot better than in that first photo. Just a little bit of TLC from both Solace and the vet, and a warm place to sleep, made a big difference.

"She is fine. Got so thin since she won't eat or drink anything, but she is fine," Solace noted.

Seeing the dog in such good hands made everyone cheer.

It's amazing the power that dogs have on people. After seeing that this poor dog was likely going to make a full recovery thanks to Solace saving her life, people couldn't help but chime in their well-wishes. Some also wanted to monetarily help Solace's mission, but instead, Solace suggested that they donate that money to their local shelter. Sadly, there are plenty of dogs fighting this same fight right now without as much love and support.

One of the best improvements so far? The dog started making more noise and acting more like a happy dog and less like a sick dog.

"She walked to the yard gate barking and howling!" Solace said in another update. "This is the first time she is doing anything other than just sleeping non-stop!"

It's amazing to know this dog got a second chance.

And Solace seemed to fall in love with her. It's the magic of dogs. The poster wasn't necessarily looking to add a canine companion to the house, but it was too hard to say no to this pup. Now the two have a lifelong bond. And hopefully, more updates will come.
