Bradford Clark Freeman, the last surviving member of Easy Company's famed band of brothers, has passed away at the age of 97.
According to his obituary, Freeman graduated from high school in 1942 and was a college freshman when he volunteered to join the paratroopers. In February 1944, he joined the US Foreign Service with 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division and became a mortarman for Easy Company.
The obituary explains, "He jumped in the D-Day Normandy invasion, fought in Operation Market-Garden, and was part of the defense of Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge, where he was wounded. He was able to rejoin his unit and participated in the occupations of Berchtesgaden and Austria."
He got married after the war and had two daughters, who wrote his obituary. As they noted, "Our dad was always astounded that a country boy from Mississippi was able to see so many places and meet so many interesting people."
