Prince Harry and Meghan Markle held a christening for their daughter, Lilibet, on March 3, 2023. The ceremony has been described as "small and intimate" and took place at the family's home in Montecito, California.
A spokesperson confirmed the news, telling People, "I can confirm that Princess Lilibet Diana was christened on Friday, March 3 by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, the Rev John Taylor."
King Charles, Camilla, Prince William, and Kate Middleton were all reportedly invited to the christening but declined to attend. An official reason for not attending has not been issued by any of the group so far.
There were reportedly 20 to 30 guests at Lilibet's ceremony. Guests included Doria Ragland, Tyler Perry, and a godmother who has not been named. People reports that there was plenty of fun, including a sweet moment when Archie danced with his sister.
The pair also hired a 10-person choir that reportedly sang "Oh Happy Day" and "This Little Light of Mine" at the ceremony.
Prince Harry has spoken before about how he hopes his children will be connected with the royal family.
He told People in January 2023, "I've said before that I've wanted a family, not an institution — so of course, I would love nothing more than for our children to have relationships with members of my family, and they do with some, which brings me great joy."
He also wrote in his memoir, Spare, about the relationship his children will have with the family. Harry wrote, "I couldn't stop picturing them with Granny. The final visit. Archie making deep, chivalrous bows, his baby sister Lilibet cuddling the monarch's shins. Sweetest children, Granny said, sounding bemused. She'd expected them to be a bit more … American, I think? Meaning, in her mind, more rambunctious."
