I’m An Active Outdoor Mom And This Is The Stroller That Meets All My Needs

We all want to give our little ones a childhood full of fresh air and new adventures! Having the right stroller is absolutely essential to ensure that we can provide that to them. Finding one with all-terrain functionality is the key to creating an outdoor experience that’s safe and comfortable for both you and your tiny bundle of joy. If you’re like me and have been looking for the perfect stroller to keep up with an active outdoor lifestyle, you’ve come to the right place. The Thule Urban Glide 2 is advertised as all-terrain, and I got the chance to see for myself just how true that is. I tested it in a variety of terrain types, and I am super excited to share how it did.

Initial Impressions

Assembly of the Thule Urban Glide 2 couldn’t be simpler. The two rear tires come detached and click into place easily. They were most of the way inflated, but needed a little bit of air added to reach the ideal pressure. This can be done with any tire pump. The whole setup took about 5 minutes, and we were ready to roll!

It Made Me Feel Safe

I love that the Thule Urban Glide 2 includes two options for braking. It includes a foot pedal on the back for keeping the stroller stationary when you’re stopped. This makes loading and unloading a breeze. In addition, there is an integrated twist hand brake for allowing you to control the speed when going down hills.

The straps have a five-point harness for keeping baby fully secured. The material on the straps adjusts smoothly and stays put once adjusted. My baby is about 18 pounds and is an escape artist, but he hasn’t come close to wiggling out of them. The materials are very high quality and don’t show any signs of rough spots or any points that could cause discomfort when used for an extended period of time. There is an additional option to purchase the infant car seat adapter or the Thule Bassinet, so this stroller can be used from birth all the way up to when your child reaches 49 pounds, allowing you to enjoy it for many years.

The incline of the seat is simple to adjust by pulling a strap in the center of the back. This is perfect for when my son falls asleep during our excursions. Once we get either back home or to a location we’ll be at for a while, I can recline him into a safe, flat sleeping position without having to disturb his nap.

It Protected My Baby From the Elements

The attached shade has excellent coverage for sun protection and light precipitation. I love that when it’s down, there’s a peek-a-boo flap that opens on the top, allowing me to view the baby while still shielding him from UV rays. The fabrics used are of excellent quality, and the materials don’t have any kind of overwhelming smell. There is also a segment of the shade that can be unzipped to reveal a mesh vent, allowing additional airflow.

It Is Aptly Named

The height of the handlebar is easy to modify, with just the push of a button. With everything in place, I put a few essentials into the large cargo basket located beneath the seat, and we were ready to get going. I strapped my son in and rolled him up and down my gravel driveway. Like many women, my core strength has not fully recovered since my pregnancy and C-section. I was very impressed with how little force is required to push the Thule Urban Glide 2. The suspension, 12-inch front wheel, and 16-inch back wheels come together to create a smooth ride. As the name suggests, it glided effortlessly over the gravel, and my son was not jostled around at all.

It Took Well to New Terrain

Next, we went for the grass. We’ve been having some early spring weather lately, so the ground is pretty soft. We went over some grassy areas and had absolutely no trouble. The Thule Urban Glide 2 seems to distribute weight evenly over all of the tires, so it doesn’t sink into soft soil easily. Maneuverability stays constant, and it maintains a tight turning radius. The wheels are large enough to get through some rocky areas. Traversing rocks several inches in diameter is surprisingly easy. If cobblestone walkways are part of your life, this is the perfect tool for conquering them!

It Mastered Paved Hills and Handled Snow and Ice

At this point, we were ready to take to the roads. My husband joined us for a stroll through the neighborhood. He is much taller than I am, and the way you can adjust the height of the handlebar in just a couple of seconds is convenient. My street is very hilly. Thule Urban Glide 2’s handlebar twist-brake functioned perfectly, allowing me to maintain full control of our speed. If you’re looking to do some jogging, the front tire has the option to lock into a forward position for minimum resistance.

The stroller did well in a couple of inches of snow and slush. It got a little slippery on icy patches, but it is probably best to avoid those in general.
