Being a bridesmaid or a groomsman in a wedding is a big honor. But it is also a lot of work. The day is all about supporting your friend. Sometimes once people get through the formal stuff, they want to cut loose at the reception.
A group of bridesmaids recently took the last part literally. TikTok user @emma.league posted a video of herself and her fellow bridesmaids taking scissors to their formal dresses and cutting them shorter for the reception. Girls just wanna have fun. This sparked a heated debate in the comment section about whether or not this was acceptable behavior.
Emma’s video shows the bridesmaids doing the deed and making cuts. The overlaid text on the video says, “when all of the bridesmaids decided we were gonna cut our dresses after the reception started.” It was posted in February but quickly went viral. It has over 12 million views and around 700,000 likes.
Many people in the comment section were worried about how the bride felt about this. “Please tell me the bride knew and was okay with this,” wrote one user. To allay these fears, Emma posted a video of the bridesmaids dancing with the bride.

The comment section was divided into two camps. One thought this was a bad idea and that it pulled focus from the bride. “The wild and crazy bridesmaids stole attention from the bride with crazy antics,” said a user.
The other camp thought it was a smart idea: “The literal version of 'you can cut it short and wear it again.'” Regardless of the internet’s opinion, it looks like everyone had a great time at the reception.
