It appears that actor Drake Bell and model Janet Von Schmeling are calling it quits. This news comes only one week after Drake was briefly reported missing in Florida but then safely found by Daytona Beach Police.
The two were married for four years. They share a 2-year-old son.
Janet requested legal and physical custody of their son, with Drake getting only visitation rights. She requested spousal support from him as well.
Just a week earlier, Drake was briefly reported missing while in Florida. He was considered to be endangered but was later confirmed to be safe.
“You leave your phone in the car and don’t answer for the night and this?” he joked about the incident in a since-deleted tweet.
Robert Bell, Drake's brother, was the one who contacted the authorities with concern about his brother's whereabouts. Drake had supposedly made suicidal comments in text messages between him and his mother shortly before his "disappearance," according to a police report.
Robert went on to share that Drake was in Florida visiting his estranged wife to talk about custody arrangements for their son. The petition for divorce revealed that the couple had been separated since September 2022. Robert mentioned that Drake was "distraught" about the custody disputes.
In a tweet, Drake mentioned he found out about the petition for divorce online: "I found out my wife filed for divorce from TMZ…check out my new song."
Janet cited irreconcilable differences in her petition for divorce. The 28-year-old has been living in Florida with their son amidst their separation, and she is seemingly just trying to find time and space to heal. Her Instagram has been wiped clean of any trace of Drake.
The 36-year-old actor has seemingly had a long battle with his mental health. "It truly blows my mind how mean people are on here to people clearly dealing with mental health issues. It's unreal how cruel you all can be," he said in a tweet. Many of his fans responded, sending him well-wishes and urging him to take care of himself.
"It truly is," one fan agreed. "Social media is a scary place. You have a lot of wonderful fans and people who care about you, that’s what’s important."
