Heartwarming Moment Caged Chimpanzee Sees Sky For First Time Caught On Video

This by far is one of the most heartwarming videos that you'll ever lay eyes on. A chimpanzee's reaction to seeing the sky for the first time in her life was caught on camera — and it's the most precious thing ever. Who would've thought that we even needed to witness such a beautiful moment?

Vanilla is a 29-year-old chimp who is a survivor of the Laboratory for Experimental Medicine and Surgery in Primates. It was a research facility at New York University that was founded in 1965. The facility had around 300 chimpanzees and 300 monkeys that it used for intensive biomedical research.

Vanilla lived in the facility until it closed in 1997, when she was 2. She had never seen the sky and had always been restricted to a 5-foot-square cage or an enclosure no bigger than a garage.

The video captures the moment Vanilla arrives at the Save the Chimps sanctuary, which is in Fort Pierce, Florida. She jumps outside, gives a fellow chimp a tight hug, and then looks up at the sky in amazement and with excitement.

People all over were moved by the video.

"Oh my goodness, her little face, thank you for rescuing her," someone commented. "Bless her heart."

"❤ no animal should spend its life in a cage , lovely video," another person wrote.
