‘AGT: Extreme’ Contestant Plummets 40 Feet In Midair Collision Escape Stunt Gone Wrong

America's Got Talent: Extreme is promising to deliver jaw-dropping, heart-pounding moments, but one of those moments nearly turned tragic during a rehearsal in 2021.

Jonathan Goodwin, a professional escape artist and daredevil, failed an escape attempt in a scary moment caught on film. The production on AGT: Extreme was paused after Goodwin fell over 40 feet during the stunt gone wrong, missing a safety air bag.

Thankfully, Jonathan is alive but has a long road of recovery ahead of him after the unbelievable moment.

Production on America's Got Talent: Extreme's first season was halted after a terrifying accident during a rehearsal. The show features high-adrenaline stunts by some of the world's biggest talents.

Jonathan Goodwin previously appeared on America's Got Talent in 2020. In the semifinals, Goodwin tried to escape a padlocked trap while the ropes suspending him were on fire.

For his appearance on America's Got Talent: Extreme, Goodwin hung midair in a straightjacket with a car suspended on each side of him, facing one another. Goodwin was supposed to fall underneath the cars, but the timing was off, sandwiching him between those cars.

After being crushed by the cars, Goodwin fell to the ground, missing the airbag. He was initially unresponsive, with the crew fearing the worst, but he came to and was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where he underwent surgery.

Goodwin suffered multiple broken bones in both of his legs. His entire body is cut up, and he's dealing with a number of burns, but he's on the road to recovery. In an Instagram post, Goodwin thanked fans for their well-wishes and says he won't take this second chance for granted.

AGT released a statement sending well-wishes to Goodwin as he recovers.

"Our thoughts and prayers remain with Jonathan Goodwin and his family as he continues to recover from his accident on Thursday," the show said, per Today.

"The health and safety of our cast and crew continue to be our priority."
