David Hasselhoff Pays Tribute To His Roommate And Friend, Paul Reubens, After His Death

Knight Rider actor David Hasselhoff is remembering his former college roommate and longtime friend, Paul Reubens. Paul, who was largely known for his role as Pee-wee Herman, died on July 30, 2023. Paul, who had been diagnosed with cancer, was 70 years old when he died.

Paul became famous after starring in Pee-wee's Big Adventure in 1985, later starring in the sequel, Big Top Pee-wee, in 1988 and a third film as recently as 2016. His show, Pee-wee's Playhouse, ran on CBS from 1986 to 1990.

"Paul Reubens was a great, great friend," David shared on Twitter and Instagram. "He gave me the muppets for my birthday and never forgot anyone’s birthday from our class. He was in my class at CalArts and room mates! He was always kind to me and to everyone. He will be missed. #paulreubens #peeweeherman."

According to Paul's team, he passed away after a long battle with cancer. "Last night we said farewell to Paul Reubens, an iconic American actor, comedian, writer and producer whose beloved character Pee-wee Herman delighted generations of children and adults with his positivity, whimsy and belief in the importance of kindness," the statement on Facebook read.

"Paul bravely and privately fought cancer for years with his trademark tenacity and wit," the statement continued. "A gifted and prolific talent, he will forever live in the comedy pantheon and in our hearts as a treasured friend and man of remarkable character and generosity of spirit."
