It is no secret that Britney Spears has a strained relationship with most of her family. It’s a complicated situation, to say the least. Currently, her mom Lynne Spears and Britney are not on the best of terms. Partly because of this, Lynne’s finances are not great. According to a report by the Daily Mail, Lynne is struggling to pay her bills and has started working as a substitute teacher.
Lynne has not confirmed this to any news outlets, but ran a day care and preschool when Britney was growing up. Her Instagram profile states that she is a consultant for multi-level marketing beauty company Rodan & Fields. She also runs a blog with friends.
The source who spoke to the Daily Mail did not sugarcoat the situation. “She is struggling to pay her bills,” the source stated. “She has already substituted for several classes at [a local school].”
In April 2022, Lynne asked Britney for money to help cover the legal fees she accrued during Britney’s conservatorship. Lynne asked for $660,000.
“While acknowledging that the requested fee is in the six figures, [Lynne] respectfully suggests that the request pales in comparison to the millions and millions of dollars that were spent by Jamie Spears to keep [Britney] in her untenable conservatorship, and to perform activities that [Britney] did not request, and that were not in her best interest,” court documents read.

Britney’s lawyer, Mathew Rosegart, rejected this request. He pointed out that “for at least a decade [Lynne] resided in a large, expansive house owned by Britney Spears in Kentwood, La., for which her daughter has also continuously — and generously — paid Lynne Spears’ utilities, telephone services, insurance, property taxes, landscaping, pool work, pest control, repairs and maintenance, totaling approximately $1.7 million.”
Lynne eventually rescinded her request. Although the pair reconnected in May 2023, Britney and Lynne have been on rocky terms since Britney's husband Sam Asghari filed for divorce in August.
