The death of Matthew Perry is still under investigation, even following the completion of his autopsy. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the completed autopsy on Sunday, but shared that the doctor has ordered more testing, including a toxicology, which could take a few months to complete.
As of now, the cause of the actor's death has been classified as being "deferred," which according to the agency is when the cause of death can't be determined at the time and additional studies have to be done.
The Friends star's body was found on Saturday October 28, 2023, at his home in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles. His death was deemed an apparent drowning after authorities found him unresponsive in the hot tub on his property.
His body was removed from the residence that night. He was 54 years old, and news of his death has come as a shock to many.

“We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother,” the actor’s family said in a statement to People. “Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend. You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love.”
Co-creators of Friends, Marta Kauffman and David Crane, along with the show's executive producer, Kevin Bright, released a statement about the actor following the news of his death. “We are shocked and deeply, deeply saddened by our beloved friend Matthew’s passing,” it read. “It still seems impossible. All we can say is that we feel blessed to have had him as part of our lives. He was a brilliant talent.”
“It’s a cliche to say that an actor makes a role their own, but in Matthew’s case, there are no truer words,” the statement continued. “From the day we first heard him embody the role of Chandler Bing, there was no one else for us."
"We will always cherish the joy, the light, the blinding intelligence he brought to every moment — not just to his work, but in life as well. He was always the funniest person in the room. More than that, he was the sweetest, with a giving and selfless heart. We send all of our love to his family and friends. This truly is The One Where Our Hearts Are Broken,” the statement concluded.
Just five days before his death, Matthew shared a photo to his Instagram of him in his hot tub. He was seen wearing headphones and casually relaxing. That was the last photo he posted before his death.
"You have no idea how many lives you touched❤️," one fan commented under the post after the actor's death was revealed.
"I did survive very stressful times thanks to him and the rest of the gang," another user commented. "Feels like losing a friend, doesn't it?"
