Woman Thinks She Has A UTI Until Doctors Reveal It’s A Glass Tumbler Stuck Inside Her Body

Doctors recently got a really strange surprise after a woman came to the hospital complaining of pain that felt similar to a urinary tract infection.

It was not, in fact, a urinary tract infection, which would've been a super-normal explanation. Instead, they found something pretty unique. Upon X-raying the 45-year-old, doctors found that she actually had a glass tumbler lodged inside her bladder. As you can imagine, they were completely and utterly stunned.

The glass tumbler was encased by an 8-cm-wide bladder stone. For perspective, bladder stones are typically so small you can't even see them.

If you're wondering how the glass tumbler got in there, you're not alone! That was likely the first question doctors at the Academic Hospital Habib Bourguiba asked. The woman, who is from Tunisia, admitted that she inserted the glass during sex.

It wasn't a recent sexual exploration, either. It happened four years ago. She inserted the glass, then forgot about it.

She did run into some issues over the years. She revealed that she had suffered cystitis (inflammation of the bladder) several times. Luckily, she didn't have anything truly catastrophic happen. She didn't even have urinary incontinence, which is a bit mind-blowing.

Even more mind-blowing is that in order for the glass to end up inside of her bladder, it had to be inserted, not through her vaginal canal, but through her urethra. It sounds super painful and unpleasant, but this is actually a thing that some people enjoy doing for pleasure. The practice is called "urethral sounding," and it is not recommended by medical professionals.

There are so many strange and kind of amazing parts of this story. Like, the facts that the glass was forgotten about and it didn't cause her a great deal of pain are just wild. But what else is really wild is that the glass didn't break or shatter. When doctors pulled it out, it was in pretty good shape. Hopefully no one is drinking out of it, though.

The woman recovered in two days without issue.
