Woman Hears Weird Clicking Sounds In Ear, Doctor Finds Spider & Discarded Exoskeleton

If you’re someone who continually tries to not freak out when they spot a spider inside their home and lets them just do own their thing, this video may have you rethinking things.

This video posted on Instagram by Today shares footage of a spider and its exoskeleton inside the ear canal of a woman who reported hearing strange noises in her left ear.

Taken from a case study published in the New England Journal of Medicine, the 64-year-old woman started hearing “abnormal sounds” in her ear and was having trouble sleeping for several days. She also had “the feeling of a creature moving inside her ear” after hearing “incessant beating, clicking, and rustling sounds.”

According to NBC News, the woman, who was living in Taiwan, decided to visit an ear, nose, and throat physician after several sleepless nights, and it was during that doctor’s visit that they discovered a tiny live spider in her ear, along with its discarded exoskeleton.

Dr. Tengchin Wang, the co-author of the report in the journal, noted that the patient didn’t feel any pain as the spider was just “2 to 3 millimetres” in size, which is approximately 1/10 inch.

NBC News explains that even though they had never seen a spider’s exoskeleton molted inside of someone’s ear canal before, it’s not completely unheard of to discover some kind of bug or foreign object in people’s ear canals.
