Hilary Duff Laughs Off Inappropriate Birthday Card From 5-Year-Old Daughter

Sometimes, kids take a liking to something without fully understanding it. This was the case for Hilary Duff's 5-year-old daughter Banks. She picked out what she thought was the perfect card for her mom, but there was just one problem: She couldn’t read it.

Hilary’s husband Matthew Koma definitely could and stood behind his daughter’s choice, purely for the comedic impact of the card. Hilary spoke about this hilariously inappropriate card on a recent appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers.

"'Banks got you the best birthday card,'" Hilary recalled her husband telling her. This led her to believe it was going to sing or something like that, which is a valid guess. The truth was even funnier.

Banks' card featured a cake. This sweet treat had the words, “Happy birthday d—head” on it. "I was really surprised," Hilary recalled. She thought it was too funny to keep to herself so she posted it on her Instagram Stories. "Love it, had to post it," she stated.

Hilary is a mother of three. She shares her 11-year-old son Luca with ex-husband Mike Comrie. She and Matthew have two children, Banks and 2-year-old Mae.

Hilary was on Late Night to promote her children's book, My Sweet Little Boy. This is a follow up to My Brave Little Girl. Hilary and Seth joked about the fact that she wrote about her daughters before her son, even though he is the oldest.

"I know, I know," Hilary joked. "I like to keep them grounded by doing horrible things."
