Courteney Cox Breaks Silence & Posts Emotional Tribute Following Death Of Matthew Perry

It's been over three weeks since Matthew Perry's passing, and Courteney Cox has finally broken her silence to honor her former costar with an emotional tribute posted to her Instagram.

On November 14, 2023, she posted a video that showed her and the late actor in a love scene from the NBC sitcom Friends. She posted the original footage that aired on television as well as some outtake footage where she and Matthew were making jokes with the studio audience.

"I am so grateful for every moment I had with you Matty and I miss you every day," she started off. Matthew died at the age of 54 on October 28, 2023, in an apparent drowning. He was found at his Los Angeles home in the hot tub.

"When you work with someone as closely as I did with Matthew, there are thousands of moments I wish I could share," she continued. "For now here’s one of my favorites."

"To give a little backstory, Chandler and Monica were supposed to have a one night fling in London. But because of the audience’s reaction, it became the beginning of their love story."

"In this scene, before we started rolling, he whispered a funny line for me to say," the post concluded. "He often did things like that. He was funny and he was kind. ️."

In the show, the two played Monica and Chandler, who started off as friends. Eventually, later into the show, they fell in love, got married, and welcomed kids.

Detectives found “no obvious signs of trauma” and no signs of foul play in Matthew's death. His official cause of death is pending a coroner’s investigation.

People flooded the comments with an outpour of love and support.

"My heart is broken for all of you and all who loved him," one fan said. "It feels like we all lost a friend May he rest easy now. You all need each other, he will make sure you’re all ok! ✨."

On October 30, 2023, Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, and Lisa Kudrow (all former costars of Matthew's) released a statement. “We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew,” the statement read. "We were more than just cast mates. We are a family. There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss. In time we will say more, as and when we are able. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.”
