It’s simply part of a bus driver’s job to learn how to properly communicate and deal with people of all ages and from all walks of life. They never know who might get on their bus each day and what that individual might be going through in their personal life.
Margaret had been a bus driver for over 10 years. Even though she thought she had seen it all over the years, nothing could have prepared her for that one shift that completely changed her perspective.
It was a day like any other when she pulled up to one of her regular bus stops that had a lone little boy waiting there. He was visibly shaking and before Margaret could think twice, she motioned for him to get on the bus.
Margaret tried to make a mental note of his outfit, but it was when she looked further down that she was startled. The young boy wasn’t wearing any shoes or even socks on his bare feet and it was a cold day outside.
Margaret tried to make the boy feel comfortable by offering him smiles and asking him if he needed her help. He eventually opened up to Margaret and told her that he had been chasing a rabbit out in his yard when it darted into the forest and he soon got so turned around that he was lost. He headed out to the road to the nearest bus stop in hopes of making it home.

Even though the boy’s story seemed rather straightforward, there was still something about his current state of mind that appeared off to Margaret.
