Wedding guest lists can be complicated. This is compounded when one has high-profile friends, such as members of the British royal family. Add in some estrangement, and there is room for the dramatic. The Duke of Westminster, Hugh Grosvenor, found himself in this tricky situation.
Hugh decided to combat this by not inviting Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to his wedding to Olivia Henson. Hugh is one of Archie’s godfathers and a close friend of both Prince Harry and Prince William. According to The Sunday Times, Prince William and King Charles will attend the big event.
Hugh came to this difficult decision because he did not want any drama on his wedding day. It was not easy for him because he is friends with Harry. “It’s incredibly sad it has come to this,” a source close to the situation told The Sunday Times.
Hugh was looking out for his future wife. He did not want her to get upstaged by royal drama. “He wanted to avoid anything overshadowing the day, especially for Olivia and doesn’t want any awkwardness,” the source went on to say.

Hugh has hope that Prince Harry and Prince William will work things out, but knows it won’t happen overnight. “Hugh is one of very few close friends of William and Harry’s who has maintained strong bonds and a line of communication with both. He wishes they could put their heads together and patch things up, but realizes it’s unlikely to happen before the wedding,” the source stated.
It is believed that King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Kate Middleton will be in attendance. Prince Harry has not publicly commented on the snub. Perhaps in some way he is relieved to avoid the situation.
The publishing of Omid Scobie’s Endgame has ramped up tensions between Prince Harry and his extended family. The Dutch translation of the book claimed Kate Middleton and King Charles made racist comments toward Meghan Markle and her future children. Royal staff are working overtime to do damage control from the fallout.
According to Omid, it is Charles who is unwilling to make peace. The journalist claims Harry and Meghan have made several attempts at reconciliation. This is perplexing to many close to Charles. A source told Omid: “It’s complex, but there’s increasing frustration from some of the wider circle of family members that Charles won’t just fix things for the sake of everyone.”
Time will tell whether Prince Harry, Prince William, and King Charles can mend fences. Hugh and Olivia’s wedding will take place on June 7, 2023, at at Chester Cathedral. It is sure to be the society wedding of the year, even without Prince Harry’s attendance.
