A motorcyclist who was stopped by police in Michigan a for license plate violation later ran from police then jumped into the Kalamazoo River and never resurfaced, according to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.
The incident happened on January 1, 2024. When a police officer tried to initiate a traffic stop, the man did not stop, police said in a Facebook post. However, the motorcycle began experiencing mechanical issues, so the man got off his motorcycle and ran from police on foot.
The man cut through a local park with the police chasing after him. The police shared bodycam footage of the incident on Facebook. The footage shows the man jumping into the Kalamazoo River. According to police, he tried to get across the river.
"The subject fled through Veteran’s Memorial Park and ran into the Kalamazoo River to avoid being arrested. The subject attempted to go across the river. The river current pushed him downstream, and officers observed him go under water and did not resurface," the statement shared on Facebook said.
Though some of the officers went into the river and attempted to save him, they never found him.

They are still searching for the subject, and have not identified him.
