While one mom's gift-giving hack racked up a lot of positive reviews on the internet, it also drew some negative responses. Sarah Clarke, 39, shared a video to her Instagram platform explaining how she doesn't buy kids a birthday present when invited to a party. "Instead, to save on the mental load, I get the same thing every time, no matter how old they are, no matter if they’re a boy or a girl,” she said. She went on to share that she buys a coupon for the child to go to a local cafe or coffee shop with their parents as a date.
"Like … even if you KNOW the kid loves Minecraft, I don't know what Minecraft even is so where do I start," Sarah continued in the caption. "And what craft-mines do they already have? And is it even a thing you can hold or just online?"
Some of the responses thought her idea was brilliant.
"So quality time with loved ones beats out STUFF love it," one commenter wrote.
Another person commented: "A mama who gets it I would appreciate this so much because 1. You’re not adding plastic toys into my home and eventually; landfill 2. Because you’re a switched on mama who knows how important one on one time is with your child/ren."

Meanwhile, others had some negative things to say in response.
"Oh, like it’s so hard to go buy a present for a child this is so dumb," one person commented.
"Ok sure I get it too but still, flat out not good enough," another person wrote. "Thinking of yourself selfishly. That’s cookie cutting! Kids are all special and different. Ugh have you not been a kid yourself—- zero care factor right there!! At least they’re getting something. Sad for the children. ."
