There is good in this world if you remember to look for it. A server in Michigan affirmed this when she received a $10,000 tip on February 5, 2024. She then turned around and shared it with her seven coworkers.
Linsey Boyd works at the Mason Jar Cafe in Benton Harbor, Michigan. The breakfast spot is not a high-end Michelin star type of establishment. It’s homey and welcoming. Nothing like this has ever happened here before. Linsey’s manager Tim Sweeney was amazed at the customer’s generosity.
The customer who left the tip was named Mark. He did it in honor of his friend who had recently died. He had traveled to Michigan to attend his friend’s memorial service. His check was for $32, so he tipped 31,000%.
Linsey didn’t see this coming. It was a slow Monday and she was just going about her normal routine at work. "And then I looked down, and saw the ten thousand dollars and I hugged him right then and there. I didn't even know his name yet … but you just don't see that kind of generosity very often,” she recalled to ABC57.
Her manager was also in disbelief. "To really see it firsthand, and not just read about it or see another story about it, for it to happen to our small local community is really special,” Tim stated.

Tim gushed that this tip couldn’t have happened to a nicer person. Linsey was happy to share it with her coworkers and plans to use her share for driving lessons for her daughter.
Linsey hopes this story reminds people to be “kind and generous.” She believes “it doesn't have to be a $10,000 tip either, but just doing something to brighten someone's day sometimes can spiral.”
