On Monday, February 26, 2024, Kevin Costner released the first trailer for his latest film project, Horizon: An American Saga. Kevin wrote, directed, and stars in this epic western film made up of four parts; the first is scheduled to hit theaters on June 28, 2024. Eagle-eyed fans spotted Kevn’s 15-year-old son Hayes Logan Costner in the footage.
Hayes plays a younger version of the title character. Kevin takes the reins for adulthood. Kevin is proud of his son’s work on the film but joked he cast him so his son would be forced to hang out with him. A dad’s gotta do what a dad’s gotta do.
"He's very good," Kevin gushed to People. "But I kind of did it on purpose, so he could be hanging out with me." In the trailer, Hayes is seen helping a woman and girl hide from an attack. "It's all right — I'm gonna be with Dad," he tells Sienna Miller.
"Hayes plays the namesake character that I actually play in the movie. He's 13 years old and the screenplay's been around longer than that," Kevin told People in 2022. Beyond his father, Hayes shares the screen with an excellent ensemble cast including Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, Luke Wilson, and more. This isn’t the first time Kevin has used his kids in his projects.

Kevin is a proud father of seven. He shares Annie, 39, Lily, 37, and Joe, 36 with ex-wife Cindy Silva. He shares Liam, 26, with ex-Bridget Rooney. He shares Cayden Wyatt, 15, Hayes Logan, 15, and Grace Avery, 13 with ex-wife Christine Baumgartner.
For Kevin, casting his kids in his projects is how he connects and shares his work with them. “I'm like any other parent, I'm trying to figure out, like, 'This is really neat. You should come be with me,'" he mused.
