Oliver Hudson opened up about doing some inner work at the Hoffman Institute. He spoke about this on the March 18, 2024, episode of the podcast Sibling Revelry, which he cohosts with sister Kate Hudson. While working on himself, he was surprised to learn he blamed his mom Goldie Hawn for his father’s departure.
Oliver regrets being so honest on the podcast because it left what he said vulnerable to clickbait articles. He loves his mom and they share a very close relationship. His blaming her was not rational, just the inner workings of a hurt child trying to make sense of the world. He wants people to understand that nuance and spoke about it at length on the March 31, 2024, episode of the podcast.
The episode description labels Oliver’s remarks as "an apology tour after his casual comments were turned into clickbait." Kate had a sense this would happen. "You used such clickbait words," she stated.
Oliver stated that he had trauma surrounding his relationship with mom Goldie Hawn. His father Bill Hudson was not around much. "My mother was the one that I had almost the most trauma about interestingly enough because she was my primary caregiver and I was with her all of the time," he explained.

"I felt unprotected at times. She would be working. She had new boyfriends that I didn’t really like,” he went on to say.
Oliver’s words made headlines, many of which he doesn’t believe accurately portrayed his sentiments. "I'm even afraid to talk about it to inflame this even more because everything is taken so far out of context," he stated. He did it anyway.
"If you listen to the whole thing, it’s more about my child feelings in that moment rather than me and how I feel about Mom as a parent," he explained. He believes Goldie was a wonderful parent. She continues to guide him even in adulthood.
"I don't know who I would be without my mother,” Oliver gushed. “I can't even fathom it. The love that I have for her and the respect and the reverence that I have for her is beyond anything. So, it was just completely taken out of context."
Goldie raised Oliver and Kate on her own until her relationship with Kurt Russell. The two have never formally married but have a solid long-term partnership. Kurt helped Goldie raise her children as if they were his own. Kate sang his praises in 2021. "I have a stepfather who stepped in and played a huge, huge part in sharing what it is to have a dependable father figure in our life," she gushed.
