OJ Simpson, Former Football Player Accused Of Murdering His Ex-Wife, Dies

O.J. Simpson, the former NFL star who became infamous during his high-profile murder trial, has died at age 76. His family shared the news on X on April 11, writing that Simpson died from cancer on April 10, 2024. "On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer," Simpson's family wrote from his X account. "He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace."

Simpson was a popular football player who played for the San Francisco 49ers and the Buffalo Bills. In 1994, he was accused of murdering his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman.

The murder trial lasted for 11 months and Simpson was ultimately acquitted.

Several years after the criminal trial, the Browns and Goldmans sued Simpson in civil court and he was found liable. Years later, he was arrested for kidnapping and robbery. He served nearly nine years in prison and was released in 2017.

Simpson took to X in May 2023 to reveal that he had been diagnosed with cancer, though he didn't provide details.

In February 2024, Local10.com reported that "sources" said Simpson was diagnosed with prostate cancer. The outlet also reported that he was undergoing chemotherapy. Also in February, Simpson took to X to address rumors that he was in hospice care. He posted a video denying those rumors.

Simpson is survived by four children, two of whom he shared with Nicole Brown Simpson.
