6-Year-Old Girl Saves Her Mom And Young Siblings From Devastating House Fire

A 6-year-old is being hailed a hero after courageously running into her family home in North Yorkshire, England, on April 4, 2024, and saving her mom and siblings from a house fire. Olivia Patterson was playing outside when she noticed flames blazing from the roof of her family's house.

Her mother, 29-year-old Laura, was inside sleeping on the couch with her younger siblings 1-year-old Joel-James and 2-year-old Tiffany. Olivia ran into the house yelling, “Wake up mom — wake up the babies.”

The family escaped the fire in time, and later figured out that it started in the house next door, spreading to the upstairs of the family’s three-bedroom home. Olivia is now being recognized for her quick thinking and bravery.

“We are absolutely so proud of her," Olivia's grandmother, Sadie Gelder, said. "She’s got ADHD so she’s been absolutely amazing. We can’t believe Olivia got Laura out — she’s 6 years old and ran into a burning building. She looked up and saw a fire blazing upstairs … she was shouting, ‘Wake up mom, the house is on fire — wake up the babies.’ The people in the street didn’t think anyone was in because there wasn’t a car on the drive."

“They managed to get a few of the baby’s clothes but everything else has gone,” the grandmother continued. “People have been donating beds, bedding, and towels — things like that. She should be getting another council house but it’s all the little things … to help her build everything back up.”
