Tom Selleck Has Never Sent An Email Or Text To Anybody, Says Sometimes ‘I Look Up My Name’

Tom Selleck may just be a little outdated. The 79-year-old actor recently opened up in an interview with People for a cover story, sharing that he's not really connected to technology, as popular as it is in everyday life.

“Occasionally I've looked up my name,” he explained. “That started really with the book, but I've never sent my own email. I had a secretary. I've never texted anybody.” But the actor isn't incommunicado. In fact, he has others do his digital work for him so that he doesn't have to.

Tom revealed that his wife Jillie, 66, sends his texts for him. “I have a certain luxury where I probably couldn't survive otherwise,” he said. “But I don't know. I have a hard time writing things down, which is weird for a guy who's pushing a book.”

The book he's referring to is his upcoming memoir titled You Never Know. It is set to publish in the spring via Dey Street Books, which is an imprint of HarperCollins.

The book is a reflection on Tom's “accidental career” of being on screen, as he says it. He also dives into some memories of his childhood in California and his transition into his on-screen career.

“I don’t have the hooks that a lot of people do,” Tom shared. “I didn’t rehabilitate myself or have this tragic life. I had my own share of certainly ups and downs, but I’ve been very fortunate.”

Along with not being technology savvy, the actor also revealed that he doesn't watch much TV. Instead, he enjoys time outdoors on his 63-acre ranch in Ventura County, California. He also likes spending his free time looking over scripts for Blue Bloods.

As far as his journey throughout his career, the actor wants to show people the kind of dedication it takes to make it in a challenging line of work. “If you’re going to get in the acting business, you better get an appetite for it,” he shared.

“And I tried to communicate that," he continued. "Because it was kind of a long road.” Tom has appeared in shows such as Magnum, P.I., Friends, and Charlie's Angels.

The actor has also had his roles in movies such as Monte Walsh, Three Men and a Baby, and Stone Cold. He has been on Blue Bloods since 2010, and the long-running series is set to come to an end in 2024.
