Former Major League Baseball player J.J. Hardy isn't the most popular person in his neighborhood right now. J.J., 41, is currently in the process of building a mini-baseball field in his backyard. His neighbors in Chandler see the dream as a disturbance — an "injustice," even. Speaking to Arizona's Family, one of J.J.'s neighbors, Pam Lang, called the mini-baseball field "beyond what is reasonable to expect your neighbors to tolerate."
Pam lives across the street from J.J., and said it's "like living next to Top Golf."
Pam told Arizona's Family that J.J. is building the mini baseball field in the backyard of his Arizona home for his loved ones to enjoy.
Pam acknowledged that what people do in their own yards is their business — but within reason. To Pam, a baseball field is taking it too far.

Pam told Arizona's Family that no one told her that the baseball field was a thing. She only learned of it once she saw 20-foot poles being put up during the construction process.
To make matters worse for Pam, she and the former pro baseball player actually have different rules for their properties despite being neighbors.
Arizona's Family reported that while Pam lives in the city of Chandler, J.J.'s house is technically located on on a county island — meaning that he is not subject to HOA regulations.
“There’s an inherent unfairness to this, an injustice because he can do whatever he wants because it’s a county island, and I can’t,” she told Arizona's Family, adding that she has to follow HOA rules.
According to the New York Post, J.J.'s backyard is already home to a golf course, tennis court, and in-ground pool.
Though J.J. is not subject to HOA regulations, there are still rules that he needs to follow. The mini baseball field still had to adhere to height and distance requirements, as per Arizona's Family.
J.J. reportedly has not yet gotten the permits he needs to get in order to build the mini baseball field, according to his neighbor, who called the situation "disappointing and frustrating."
