The world lost a talented actor on June 20, 2024. Donald Sutherland died at the age of 88. Fans joined his son Kiefer Sutherland in mourning the loss.
On June 21, 2024, Kiefer took to Instagram to thank them for their support. It is difficult to lose a parent but there is comfort in knowing you are not alone in grief. Donald had many loyal fans.
"My family and I have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of condolences and support over the last 24 hours. Thank you very much," Kiefer wrote. His sentiments were paired with a picture of his father.
The previous day, Kiefer announced his father's death across his social media platforms and shared a throwback photo of him and his dad from childhood.
"With a heavy heart, I tell you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away," he shared. "I personally think one of the most important actors in the history of film. Never daunted by a role, good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and one can never ask for more than that. A life well lived."

Donald was a prolific actor who got his start on the London stage. His film breakout role came in 1968 in The Dirty Dozen. He won honorary Oscar, Golden Globe, and Emmy awards during his impressive career. Younger audiences loved to hate him in The Hunger Games movies.
Beyond Hollywood, he was a father of five children. He shared twins Kiefer and Rachel with ex-wife Shirley Douglas. He shared Rossif, Angus, and Roeg with wife Francine Racette, whom he was with until he died.
