Kirk Cameron Admits A ‘Pretty Girl’ Inspired Him To Become A Devout Christian

One of the things actor Kirk Cameron is best known for these days is his faith, but in his younger years, he was hardly considered a religious person. But one day, during the time he spent filming the TV sitcom Growing Pains in the late '80s and early '90s, everything changed. And apparently, it was all thanks to a cute girl, according to what the 53-year-old said in a new interview. It seems he just needed a little convincing from the right person …

In an interview with the New York Post, Kirk said that meeting a "pretty girl" who was working on the set of Growing Pains with him is what "ruined my atheism."

"She was so cute, I wanted to go out on a date with her and she said, 'Well, meet me this weekend.' I said, 'Great.' And so she gave me the address," he said. "And where did I show up? At a church."

At first, he figured he could act his way through it. "I’m like, 'Oh, please, I can’t believe this. I’m going to church? I don’t even believe in this,'" he said. "But I’m thinking, 'I’m an actor so I could fake my way through a one-hour church service.'"

But some of the things he heard in the sermon that day really resonated with him, and from then on, there was no turning back.

His experience at church made him "start asking questions." "And I eventually came to the conclusion that there’s a lot that I don’t know, a lot that I don’t understand. And there are brilliant people in the world throughout history who are 100% believers,” he said.

He didn't reveal the name of the girl who changed his mind about religion. He mentioned that she only had a small role on the show, but obviously, she had a much bigger one in Kirk's life story.

However, another pretty girl he met on the set did stick around: his wife, Chelsea Noble, who played Kirk's love interest on Growing Pains, Kate MacDonald.

Kirk's entire life would have been different if he hadn't met that girl. Aside from being an actor, today, Kirk is best known for being open about his beliefs, including on his podcast, The American Campfire Revival.

Whoever that girl was, she helped set him on the path he's on today — who knows what could have been different if they never met?
