Jimmy Carter Reportedly Wants To Make It To 100 So He Can Vote For Kamala Harris

Jimmy Carter reportedly has maintained his interest in politics, and ahead of his 100th birthday, voting in the upcoming presidential election is his priority, according to his grandson. The former president told his son Chip that he is "only trying to make it to vote for Kamala Harris," Carter's grandson Jason Carter told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Chip reportedly asked Jimmy Carter about his 100th birthday, which is on October 1, 2024. Jason Carter said that his grandfather is more interested in voting than he is in celebrating the milestone.

Jimmy Carter has been in hospice care since February 2023. On May 14, 2024, Jason shared an update on his grandfather's health at the 28th Rosalynn Carter Georgia Mental Health Forum. At the time, Jason said his grandfather was doing OK but could be "coming to the end."

At the same time, Jason said that his grandfather was "still there" and even made a joke during a recent visit.

In an interview with Southern Living magazine that was published in June, Jason said that though his grandfather is not awake every day, there's "really been no change" when it comes to his health.

He added that the Carter family did not expect Jimmy Carter to be in hospice care for so long. Instead, they thought he might be in hospice care for just a few days. "God had other plans," Jason told the outlet.

Politics have been on Jimmy Carter's mind recently, according to his grandson. Jason told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that lately, the former president has been "more alert and interested in politics and the war in Gaza."

Early voting in Jimmy Carter's home state of Georgia begins on October 15, two weeks after the former president's 100th birthday.
