Grandma Sleeping With 2-Year-Old Grandchild Wakes To Find Strange Man Climbing Into Their Bed

A grandmother was settled in bed with her grandchild for what should have been a sweet bonding moment for the two. Instead, the serene scene in Ripley, West Virginia, turned into a chilling one when a strange man reportedly entered the home and climbed into the bed with the woman and her grandchild as they were sleeping.

In addition to the intrusion, the man allegedly sexually assaulted the grandmother when she confronted him.

The incident took place in the early morning hours of February 10, 2025, according to the Miami Herald. When authorities arrived on the scene the man, 40-year-old Adam Watson, was still at the residence. He was in the backyard, standing under the window where he had assaulted the woman.

“He broke into a home and climbed in bed with a woman and a 2-year-old grandchild and sexually assaulted the adult female,” the sheriff’s office said.

As a result of his alleged crimes, police arrested Watson. Authorities charged him with burglary and second-degree sexual assault. The second charge is a felony that describes nonconsensual sexual contact by force. Watson also lives in Ripley.

He remains at the South Central Regional Jail on $75,000 bond, which he was unable to post, according to WCHS. Police are still investigating. Sergeant B.A. DeWees is leading the efforts, Lootpress reports.

West Virginia’s Jackson County Sheriff’s Department posted the news of Watson’s arrest on its Facebook page. People in the comments had questions.

“Wondering why they didn’t charge for the child involved?” one woman wondered. “Isn’t that important or no?” She assumed that the police could charge for sexual misconduct, or lewd and lascivious behavior. However, the post did not mention those charges.
