Danica Patrick Is Mad That Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl Performance Will Be in Spanish

Many conservatives have been complaining about Bad Bunny’s upcoming Super Bowl halftime show performance, and Danica Patrick has entered the conversation. The former NASCAR driver suggested that high-profile events in the United States should have music in English. Bad Bunny, who is from Puerto Rico, will perform in Spanish — and apparently Danica thinks that “should not be allowed.”

Spanish is the second most common language spoken in the United States. Additionally, the U.S. has the second largest population of Spanish speakers in the world. Earlier this year, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to make English the official language in the U.S., but prior to that, the country did not have an official language. On Sunday, September 29, Danica reacted to the news of Bad Bunny’s halftime show with, “Oh fun. No songs in English should not be allowed at one of America’s highest rated television events of the year … not just for sports.”

Unsurprisingly, many people were not impressed by this take. “You do know he’s American right?” one person wrote back. Another person wrote, “Yall was mad at rap, now you’re mad at Spanish pop music. At this point just say you want it white and white only.” A third critic found it particularly “disgusting” because “the same people complaining” are the ones who travel to places like Puerto Rico and Mexico for fun and enjoy food from the same cultures they criticize. “They love the culture, but hate the representation,” they concluded.

Of course, Danica is not the only conservative who has spoken out against Bad Bunny. Corey Lewandowski, an adviser at the Department of Homeland Security, even threatened that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcemen agents will attend the Super Bowl. “There is nowhere that you can provide safe haven to people in this country illegally. Not the Super Bowl and nowhere else,” Corey said, per The Hill. ” We will find you. We will apprehend you. We will put you in a detention facility, and we will deport you. So know that that is a very real situation under this administration, which is completely contrary to what how it used to be.”

He also called it “so shameful that they’ve decided to pick somebody who just seems to hate America so much to represent them at the halftime game.”

When it comes to “hating America,” Corey might be referring to how Bad Bunny has been critical of Trump and ICE. Bad Bunny previously asserted that he would not be touring the continental U.S. due to concerns that ICE agents could target people attending his shows. “There was the issue of — like, (expletive) ICE could be outside (my concert). And it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about,” he told i-D Magazine.

At the same time, he seems excited to perform at the Super Bowl in 2026. In a statement released by the NFL, he said, “What I’m feeling goes beyond myself. It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown… this is for my people, my culture, and our history. Ve y dile a tu abuela, que seremos el HALFTIME SHOW DEL SUPER BOWL.”
