JD Vance Attempts Lighthearted ‘Normal Guy’ Moment In Interview And Draws Criticism

For most of JD Vance‘s critics, there’s nothing he could do that would make him suddenly likeable. So when he and wife Usha Vance spoke with Fox News about his cooking skills and the first awful meal he ever made Usha, who is a vegetarian, by the way, they weren’t having it. This guy isn’t going to waltz in with a relatable dude story and suddenly get a bunch of new supporters.

When a clip from the interview was posted on X (formerly Twitter), Vance’s story about making an awful vegetarian pizza, or his definition of one when he first started dating Usha, was clearly meant to endear him to the American people. Instead, for those who are already tired of his nonsense, Vance’s cooking story and Usha’s claims that he makes bread even better than what they are served in restaurants had people rolling their eyes and calling them both out.

JD Vance described the first vegetarian dish he made for Usha Vance.

In the Fox News interview, Vance explained that he didn’t know much about vegetarian dishes the first time he looked for Usha. So, according to him, he bought a can of crescent rolls and formed them into a pizza. Then, he put vegetables and ranch dressing on it and baked it in the oven. He admitted that it was “inedible.”

And just like that, he’s the ‘everyman’ we all needed. Just kidding. But that seems to have been the goal with this particular story. Who’s buying it? I’m not sure.

“It’s amazing that the relationship lasted because that was the first time that I ever cooked for her,” he joked. “The best thing that I’ve ever cooked? I’m pretty good at cooking now. I can make a pretty good brioche bread.”

Usha added that Vance “goes through these phases where he tries to perfect different foods.” She also said that he can make Japanese milk bread that is “as well” as the kind they eat at restaurants. Somewhere in there, Vance joked about making biscuits and how they are part of his “culture.” But the relatable vice president moment didn’t translate for many.

No one believes that JD Vance is actually humble, though.

After Vance shared his bread-making skills and history with horrible recipes that Usha backed up, people commented on the X post to call out Vance for, well, a lot.

“So, the ‘worst dish’ is Usha’s vegetarian diet, and JD’s not [a vegetarian]?” Someone wrote. “Wonder if he ever tried to sneak bacon into her chili.”

“Just the 2024 version of the political beer test archetype,” another user joked.

Others replied to the X post to share how easy they think Vance had it in perfecting bread as a dish. Someone also wrote, “We’re supposed to be impressed because he managed to learn how to cook a few things? Seriously?”

“Propaganda trying to humanize Vance,” another added. “At least you people are consistent.”
