What to Know
Instead of wishing people a Happy Easter, President Donald Trump took to social media to share a threatening message with Iran on Easter Sunday. It’s obviously not the first time Trump has posted something that came across as totally unhinged, but this particular post triggered widespread backlash—because threatening another country in an expletive-laden post doesn’t exactly scream “Happy Easter.”
Former Trump loyalist Marjorie Taylor Greene was among the people who called Trump out for this (and also questioned his religious beliefs). “Our President is not a Christian and his words and actions should not be supported by Christians,” she asserted in a long post of her own.
In case you missed it, Trump threatened, “You’ll be living in Hell.”
In his bizarre Easter post directed at Iran, he wrote, “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the F—in’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah. President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
He posted this early in the morning on Easter Sunday, of all days. And to be fair, the post would’ve seemed concerning regardless of when he posted it, but the timing certainly did not help.
Greene argued that Christians should be “pursuing peace” rather than escalating.

Everyone in his administration that claims to be a Christian needs to fall on their knees and beg forgiveness from God and stop worshipping the President and intervene in Trump’s madness.

In her post, she questioned the people who identify as Christian yet continue to defend Trump. She also asserted that Trump has clearly “gone insane.”
“On Easter morning, this is what President Trump posted,” she wrote. “Everyone in his administration that claims to be a Christian needs to fall on their knees and beg forgiveness from God and stop worshipping the President and intervene in Trump’s madness. I know all of you and him and he has gone insane, and all of you are complicit.”
Elsewhere in the post, she added, “On Easter, of all days, we as Christians should be reminded that the son of God died and rose from the grave so that we can be forgiven once and for all of our sins. Jesus commanded us to love one another and forgive one another. Even our enemies…Christians in the administration should be pursuing peace. Urging the President to make peace. Not escalating war that is hurting people.”
The former congresswoman, who previously proudly sported a MAGA cap, even went as far as to say, “This is not making America great again, this is evil.”
Many others criticized Trump as well.
We were so innocent once:

Trump Easter message, 2015: I wish everyone, including the haters and losers, a very happy Easter!

On social media, people found Trump’s post deeply unsettling. In an X post, writer Steven Beschloss wrote, “This is not funny. This is beyond desperate. This is a deeply unwell man who doesn’t belong anywhere near the levers of power. Every member of his cabinet and Congress is complicit in not demanding his removal now.”
Reacting to the post, a lot of others agreed that Trump is unfit to be president. Someone argued that Trump “has completely lost it!” Another person said Trump’s post sounded “more like a fight in a bar than a US president winning a war.”
And someone else called Trump’s post “a tweet to preserve for the Museum of Evil.”
One of Trump’s previous Easter posts also resurfaced. At the time, it had seemed totally unwarranted and inappropriate, but compared to this year’s post, it suddenly seemed “innocent” to one social media user who shared it. “I wish everyone, including the haters and losers, a very happy Easter!” Trump had written in 2015.
Though a lot of people have argued that he’s “losing it,” unhinged Easter posts seem to be his thing. In 2021, he wrote, “Happy Easter to ALL including the Radical Left CRAZIES who rigged our Presidential Election, and want to destroy our Country!”
