Some of President Donald Trump’s harshest celebrity critics are people who have always disliked him (like Rosie O’Donnell, who had an issue with him long before he became president).
Meanwhile, some celebrities never explicitly claimed to support Trump, yet people assumed they did (like Jelly Roll). With Jelly Roll, it seems a decent number of people assumed Aaron Rodgers supported Trump, and they were taken aback when they realized their assumptions were wrong.
Because Rodgers does not identify as a “Trumper,” actually. He has never claimed to support him, but he has been openly skeptical of vaccines, has expressed support for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (who now works for Trump), and is friends with podcaster Joe Rogan. Apparently, none of those things means he supports the MAGA movement—in fact, he doesn’t think MAGA is a real thing that exists at this point.
During a recent conversation, Rodgers opened up about his political beliefs.
And his views are quite a bit different from what many people had assumed. He made it abundantly clear that Trump’s second term has left him feeling disappointed. It sounds like he had somewhat high hopes in the beginning, only to discover that the Trump administration would not actually go on to do the things he had been counting on.
During an appearance on Not Just Football with Cam Heyward, Rodgers addressed the rumors about his politics and clarified that he doesn’t trust politicians in general.
“You shouldn’t trust the government,” he claimed. “The government’s a uniparty. Like I was saying, they want to paint me… they think because I’m anti-vax that I’m a right-wing conspiracy theorist Trumper. I’m like, first of all, I don’t trust anyone in politics…”
But his criticism also got much more specific.
Sure, he doesn’t trust anyone in politics, really. But he also has specific issues with the current administration. For example, he referred to FBI Director Kash Patel as a “moron” and accused Trump of failing to do the things that he promised voters.
“Anybody that even liked Trump or thought that things would change — like, this is a pro-Israel-first administration,” he said. “And when you dig into it, that’s the uni-party.”
He also bashed Trump for not doing the things he had said he was going to do, like, “cut the vaccine stuff, avoid foreign wars, and end the Ukraine stuff.”
From his perspective, the so-called MAGA movement is not a real thing. “There is no MAGA movement,” he asserted. “There is no Make America Great Again movement, because the guy you elected hasn’t kept any of his campaign promises.”
The handling of the Epstein Files is something that really bothers Rodgers.
Although he wasn’t necessarily a huge “Trumper,” he was hopeful that the Trump administration would stick to their “transparency in the Epstein files” promise. But nope.
“I was actually excited because, you know, the moron Kash Patel goes on Joe Rogan, which I watch a lot because I like Joe and Joe’s a friend, and he says, ‘Day one, we’re going in, and we’re opening up the Epstein files,'” Rodgers recalled. But what actually happened has not lived up to Rodgers’ expectations. “There’s been nothing but the obstruction of transparency with this entire administration,” he concluded.
