Expert Dishes On Whether Meghan Markle Is Allowed To Be A Bridesmaid Now That She’s A Royal

In her days before becoming royalty, Meghan Markle amassed quite the group of powerful, beautiful ladies she shares special friendships with. One of these lovely ladies is none other than international powerhouse Priyanka Chopra.

Priyanka has made headlines recently: Rumors of a relationship between Priyanka and Nick Jonas began to swirl after the two showed up at the 2017 Met Gala together. Although Priyanka shut down the rumors by saying the two made an appearance together because they were both wearing Ralph Lauren and seated at his table — clues indicating a romance continued to draw attention to the two.

This summer, things have heated up dramatically. After being spotted together on several occasions and leaving flirty Instagram comments on each other's accounts, it seemed pretty clear that Nick and Priyanka were an item. Just a few short weeks later, People reported that Nick shut down a Tiffany store in NYC to pick the right ring to give Priyanka. If the two are indeed headed down the aisle, could Meghan Markle be called in for bridesmaid duty?

It was obvious that Priyanka Chopra was excited for the royal wedding. Unlike the rest of us onlookers, she had reason to be.

Meghan Markle and Priyanka have been friends since meeting at the Elle Women in Television Dinner in early 2016.

The ladies hold many of the same causes dear to their hearts. They're both huge advocates for gender equality, and Priyanka even corrected Wendy Williams in a May 2017 interview when Wendy referred to Meghan as "Prince Harry's girlfriend." Priyanka replied, "Also, Meghan Markle: actress, Suits, her achievements."

With a friendship like that, it's no surprise that Priyanka was one of Meghan's guests at the royal wedding.

She even labeled herself part of the "bridal crew" in this Instagram shot from the royal wedding, posing alongside some of Meghan's other guests.

Now, Priyanka is having her own fairy-tale moment.

Although their appearance struck rumors of a relationship, Priyanka initially denied there was anything going on during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

In recent months, the couple has been a little more public with their affection, although they have yet to post any photos together. Priyanka posted this picture and laughed about enjoying burgers and Chanel.

And Nick couldn't help but comment his admiration for his girl's smile.

Now it seems the two are ready to take the next step, with reports that Nick asked Priyanka to marry him on her 36th birthday just a few weeks ago.

Can Meghan Markle actually be a part of the bridal party, though?

Although it's unclear whether it happened before or after Nick popped the question, the couple was spotted visiting Harry and Meghan in their Oxfordshire country home.

Could Priyanka have possibly been sharing the good news with her close pal? And if so, could Meghan be a bridesmaid in one of the most epic weddings since, well, her own?

Although it's uncommon, it is possible, according to royal reporter Omid Scobie. "Should a female member of the Royal Family choose to take on a bridal party role at a friend's wedding, it would be her own decision. There’s no rule that wouldn’t allow this and she certainly wouldn’t need permission or guidance from Palace aides."

While there isn't much of a precedent for it, if there's anyone who would set the example, it's Meghan. Even if she isn't in the bridal party, we know she'll be there supporting Priyanka the same way Priyanka has supported her.

There are so many beautiful things to celebrate here. It's wonderful to see two women in a supportive, noncompetitive friendship cheer each other on as they blossom and grow. It's fabulous to see Priyanka Chopra happy in her relationship with Nick Jonas. When the wedding does happen, it'll be a lovefest all around!
