Hospital staff separated Shatiesha Brown from her baby daughter immediately after delivery because she was suffering from high blood pressure. While in recovery, nurses placed her daughter in another mother's arm.
Shaquana Brown and Shatiesha Brown, not related, both gave birth to little girls on the same day in the same hospital. But while Shatiesha was being monitored and separated from baby Aniya, Aniya was accidentally brought to Shaquana, who was under the impression the baby girl was hers.
Shaquana had actually given birth to Kamira nearly three months premature, so doctors rushed her from the delivery room before Shaquana could even see her.
For the next 10 hours, Aniya was in the wrong hands as Shaquana held her, took photos with her, and even breastfed her. All that time, Kamira had been without her mother in the NICU.
Finally, a nurse told Shatiesha that the baby she had been so closely bonding with was not actually hers. It reportedly took the hospital 30 minutes to find her baby and sort things out. Shatiesha was devastated, particularly because Aniya was rejecting her milk. It was such a damaging experience that she had to seek therapy, and she said the father was also having trouble bonding with his daughter.
The pair of moms planned to sue the hospital for the disastrous mix-up.
