If you've ever had to inform your kids that you're having another baby, you might have gotten a few different reactions. Popular ones are anger, confusion, and sadness. Kids are very insecure about the relationships they have with people around them and often worry how adding another person to the mix will change that. Hilary Duff recently went through this with her 6-year-old son Luca, and apparently it's not any easier for celebs.
Hilary is currently close to bursting with her baby girl. Of course, this means having more conversations with Luca about becoming a big brother and what it'll be like to have a baby in the house. Like many kids, Luca is a little nervous and sad about losing his only-child status. When he opened up about his concerns, mama Hilary tried to point out the bright sides of being a big brother to keep him excited.
Hilary Duff's 6-year-old son, Luca, is used to being the No. 1 man in his mama's life.
Earlier this summer, the Younger star announced that she was expecting a baby with boyfriend, singer Matthew Koma.
They'll be welcoming a little girl, whom Hilary has referred to in recent posts as "Baby B."
Hilary hoped that her son would be excited about the new addition to the family, but that wasn't quite the reaction he had at first.
Hilary spoke about Luca's reaction with AOL's Gibson Johns. "He was like 'why?'" she revealed.
"Because it's been just us for six years!" she told the wary 6-year-old. "The first conversation was pretty sad," she admitted.
Hilary was determined to get Luca excited, so she tried to focus on the lighthearted, fun things with him. She said, "I was like, 'Dude, you have no idea. This is going to be a really good thing for our family. Mom has so much room in my heart for you and a sister and you're going to have so much fun watching her grow and teaching her things.'"
She even teased Luca about chasing him around — with dirty diapers. "I also told him that babies are funny! I was like, 'And I'm going to chase you around with her dirty diapers sometimes.' And he was like, 'Nooo!'"
Now Luca is warming up to the idea of being a big brother. He even says goodbye to the baby bump when he leaves for school!
Going from one kid to two will take some adjusting, but Hilary's up for the challenge.
Matthew has also been a big help to Hilary. The pair were on-again-off-again for a while, but it's been smooth sailing since their latest reunion.
Hilary's little girl won't be the only new baby in her life. Sister Haylie Duff gave birth to her second child, Lulu, just before Hilary announced her pregnancy.
Seeing his new little cousin has helped Luca adjust to the idea of the new baby. Hilary told AOL's Gibson, "That has really helped. He's like 'We're gonna get one of those too!'"
Now that Luca's on board, all that's left is for Hilary to enjoy the days until her little girl makes her debut.
