Arizona couple, Brandon and Holly Shay knew they were expecting twin boys. However, they didn't expect their birth would go quite like this. Each day would go by and Holly wouldn't go into labor, then the New Year got closer.
Finally, Holly went into labor on New Year's Eve. As 2017 approached, the parents couldn't believe what was unfolding: their babies would be twin brothers, but they would also be born in two different years.
“It was a surprise. The timeline kept getting closer and closer and when we went to the hospital we didn't know that we were going to get admitted,” Brandon told Inside Edition.
Holly was admitted to Banner Thunder Medical Center in Glendale around 5:30 p.m. She was 37 weeks pregnant.
Sawyer Shay came first, just before midnight at 11:50 p.m. Then 11 minutes later, Everett Shay came at 12:01 a.m. What's even more unbelievable is that Holly's birth wasn't induced by doctors. It's as if the boys planned it themselves.
“The babies were both almost born in 2016, but Everett was being stubborn and after losing suction a few times we were able to miraculously extract Everett as the clock officially struck midnight and the time in seconds was rounded to the nearest Minute for a 12:01 birth,” Brandon said.
Sawyer was born 5 pounds, 5 ounces, and Everett 4 pounds, 8 ounces.
“Their birthdays are so special and now it is going to be shared by everyone to tell the story for years to come,” said Brandon. “Their personalities are really awesome and I think they are going to be best friends forever.”
Reportedly, four sets of twins were born in separate years this 2017 in the United States.
