When Evelyn was born, her family noticed she had jaundice.
Jaundice is a common liver condition that changes a newborn's skin and eye color, but it often goes away.
But instead of getting better over time, it got worse for baby Evelyn. Her parents took her to their pediatrician and he immediately called SickKids.
Evelyn's family arrived at the hospital. Their little girl was taken into surgery after being diagnosed with a rare liver disease that could have killed her.
Her family was terrified, but thankfully the doctors and staff at SickKids made them feel comfort and security during their time at the hospital. Baby Evelyn got a liver transplant and survived.
The transplant in 2014 saved her life. Now, two years later, she's a fearless, beautiful, and vibrant little girl. Her entire family has no one to thank but the great people at SickKids.
It's incredible how much children's hospitals and organizations can change a family's life. Stories like this remind us to not only be thankful for each other and our health, but for all the amazing professionals that help people survive every day.
