Broadway has always been a realm of enchantment, where dreams come alive under the bright lights of the stage. In a recent turn of events that could only be described as serendipitous, Mikayla Renfrow, an understudy for the role of Jasmine in Aladdin, found herself summoned to the spotlight while mid-flight.
This extraordinary story of determination, support, and a little bit of magic unfolds as Mikayla was tasked with making a surprise curtain call in the heart of New York City.
As the story goes, Mikayla was aboard an eight-hour flight, returning from her Italian vacation to New York City when her world suddenly took an enchanting twist. She received a text message stating, “Hey Mikayla. Let us know your updated ETA. We might actually need you for Jasmine tonight.” With thousands of miles separating her from the stage, Mikayla needed a miracle.
Thankfully, when Mikayla asked a flight attendant if it was possible for her to get off the plane first, the sympathetic flight attendant ushered Mikayla to first class. Once Mikayla was situated in first class ready to make a break for it once the plane landed, she was surprised again by the wonderful flight crew.
The pilot emerged from the cockpit to personally reassure her. With a warm and understanding spirit, he pledged to do everything within his power to ensure that she could make her curtain call. The pilot was not bluffing when he promised her this! First, they changed gates to get her closer to customs and even escorted her through.
But wait, there’s more! The pilot arranged for a helicopter to take Mikayla straight to the city. This act of kindness cut her trip from the airport from 90 minutes to 7 minutes. Once she was back in the city, Mikayla took the subway to the theater and made it to hair and makeup just in time. The flight attendant who helped her even made it to the show to cheer her on.
