Alec Baldwin, his wife Hilaria, and the seven young children they share are at the center of a new TLC show called The Baldwins. But Alec, 66, is also dad to 29-year-old daughter Ireland, whom he shares with his ex-wife Kim Basinger. Admittedly, Alec has some regrets when it comes to how he raised his eldest daughter.

On the second episode of the reality show, Alec said he is focused on being a good dad to his second-oldest daughter, 11-year-old Carmen, due to the regrets he has. “I want to have a good relationship with Carmen because I have a girl all over again,” Alec said, per E! News.
Alec believes that he had a rockier relationship with Ireland because of his divorce from her mom. “My relationship with my daughter Ireland was so negatively impacted by my divorce from her mother,” Alec explained. “One of my most regrettable things about the whole thing was how it affected Ireland.”

Because Alec and Kim’s custody battle was “just insanity” and “really, really tough,” it had a negative impact on their daughter. Alec and Kim were married from 1993 to 2002. They welcomed Ireland in 1995, meaning she was 7 years old when her parents got divorced.
In 2007, when she was just 11 years old, Alec left her an angry voicemail. The voicemail was leaked to the public. In it, Alec called his 11-year-old daughter a “rude, thoughtless, little pig.” He later released a public apology, in which he insisted he had “a normal relationship” with his daughter.
“I’m sorry, as everyone who knows me is aware, for losing my temper with my child,” Alec said at the time. “I have been driven to the edge by parental alienation for many years now. You have to go through this to understand. (Although I hope you never do.) I am sorry for what happened.”
Their relationship has improved since then. Now, Ireland reportedly has a good relationship with her dad, stepmom Hilaria, and their children.
On The Baldwins, Alec spoke about Ireland’s relationship with her half siblings. “She loves the kids,” Alec said. “I mean she’s very sweet to them and she’s their older sister but she’s not in that pack.”
