Hilaria Baldwin Jokes That Signing A Prenup Would Go ‘Against My Gold-Digging Values’

Before they tied the knot, Alec Baldwin told his now-wife Hilaria Baldwin that they should get a prenup. Admittedly, she didn’t really understand what that meant, and was not exactly a fan of the idea. During the premiere of their reality series, The Baldwins, the couple talked about the “awkward” conversation they had about doing the paperwork before getting married.

“After my first marriage [to Kim Basinger], I said, ‘Let’s have a prenup,'” Alec, 66, explained on the show, reports Page Six. He added that Hilaria, 41, “wasn’t happy about it.”

Ultimately, when they got married, they decided that they would not sign a prenup. However, looking back at the conversation, Hilaria admitted that she might approach it differently now if it were to happen today.

When they had the conversation before their wedding, Hilaria did “not understand quite what a prenup was.”

“Because you are like, ‘After a certain number of kids, it’s this,'” she explained. “And I was like, ‘You know what? I’ll just sign it,’ which was probably very stupid of me back then.”

She continued by explaining how she would approach the same conversation today: “Now, I would read it again, but, like, I just said, ‘I won’t sign it. I don’t really want to think about the end by the beginning.’” She said Alec agreed that he didn’t want to think about that either.

The couple also discussed their decision to not get a prenup during an interview with People. Hilaria told the magazine that she eventually agreed to sign a prenup, then Alec said, “OK, we don’t have to.” Due to their significant age gap (Alec was 52 when they started dating and Hilaria was 27), some people have accused Hilaria of being a “gold digger.”

She hinted at the accusation during the interview with People. She jokingly said that this was part of the reason she didn’t want to sign a prenup. Getting a prenup would go “against my gold-digging values,” she said.

In the couple’s new TLC reality show, they open up about their family life. Alec and Hilaria have seven children, so it looks like they have plenty of chaos to share.
