American Tourists Caught Sleeping At The Eiffel Tower Because They Were Drunk & Got Stuck

Americans have a bit of a reputation abroad as being loud and obnoxious. Two men traveling in Paris are unfortunately proving this stereotype true. In the early morning of August 14, 2023, these men were caught by French authorities accidentally spending the night at the iconic Eiffel Tower. It is believed that alcohol was involved.

It only took two years to build the Eiffel Tower, which was completed on March 31, 1889. The structure was originally built for the Paris World's Fair in 1889 and was meant to be temporary. Today, it is a symbol of Paris and France, with over 7 million people visiting it every year.

The men were discovered by security guards making their morning rounds before opening up the tower to the public. French police believe the men purchased tickets to visit the attraction on Sunday night at around 10:40 p.m. They climbed with the rest of the tourists, but on their way down, jumped over security barriers.

This was not a good idea because of how intoxicated they were. It is believed they got stuck somewhere between the second and third floors. They were in a restricted area.

The men had to be rescued by firefighters with special training in tall structures as the tower looms 905.5 feet high. The men’s antics did not threaten the landmark but did cause the opening of it to be delayed. The men were questioned by French police, while Sete, the company that operates the Eiffel Tower, plans to press criminal charges.
