Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt‘s divorce has been one of the most high-profile splits in Hollywood history. Although they had a prenup detailing how their property would be divided, it didn’t include child support or custody. Now, eight years after the legal battle began, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt finalized their divorce at long last.
As a refresher, Angelina and Brad met in 2003 on the set of their film, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and started dating in 2004. Brad legally adopted Angelina’s adopted children, Maddox, Zahara, and Pax, and the couple welcomed three biological children, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne. They married in 2014, but Angelina filed for divorce in 2016.

On December 30, 2024, Angelina and Brad finalized their contentious divorce, the actress’ lawyers told People.
“More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt. She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family,” James Simon, Jolie’s lawyer, told the publication. “This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.”
Reportedly, a source close to Jolie told People that Angelina “doesn’t speak ill of [Pitt] publicly or privately.” They added, “She’s been trying hard to be light after a dark time.” As of writing, a rep for Brad has not commented on the divorce settlement.
In September 2016, a drunk Brad allegedly abused Angelina and their kids. Neither police nor Jolie pressed charges after investigations.
“She could have pressed charges against him. She could have told the world what happened, a source told People in a separate article published on December 21.
They continued, “She didn’t. All she wanted was for Brad to get the help he needed and for their children to get the support they needed to heal.”
“It gives her some relief, though, that this part is finally over,” the source added.

Amid their parents’ ongoing divorce, some of Angelina and Brad’s kids seemingly became estranged from their father — and have dropped his last name as a result.
In August 2024, Shiloh legally changed her name from Shiloh Jolie-Pitt to Shiloh Jolie, TMZ reported.
Vivienne’s name was also “Vivienne Jolie” in a program for the Broadway musical The Outsiders, which she and her mom worked on. Additionally, Zahara dropped “Pitt” from her name when introducing herself as she joined a college sorority.
Brad and Angelina may have finalized their divorce. However, the former couple is still at odds with each other when it comes to the French winery they co-own, Château Miraval. The latest lawsuit update came in November when a judge ruled that Brad must produce documents that Angelina’s lawyer called “crucial evidence.”
Hopefully, Brad and Angelina can finally move on after sorting out that legal matter.
