28-Year-Old ‘Honey Boo Boo’ Star Diagnosed With Stage 4 Cancer After Stomachaches

One of the words we never want to hear a doctor say is cancer. It’s a scary thing. According to the American Cancer Society, 1.9 million people in the United States heard that diagnosis from their doctors in 2002. This led to 609,360 cancer deaths.

Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell is hoping for a better outcome. In January of this year, the 28-year-old Here Comes Honey Boo Boo star was diagnosed with stage 4 adrenal carcinoma. Her family is rallying behind her.

Anna got her diagnosis after she experienced a series of stomachaches. Tests were ordered to determine the cause. It was then that cancer was found in her liver, kidney, and lung.

Anna has begun treatment. She had one round of chemotherapy in February and lost her hair as a result. Her doctors want to see how this round goes before recommending further treatment.

Anna’s extended family is "very hopeful" she will get through this. Anna and her family first became celebrities when her mother, “Mama” June Shannon, and sister Alanna “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson appeared on TLC's Toddlers & Tiaras in 2009. This would lead them to get their own series, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, in 2012.

Anna is Mama June’s eldest child. Mama June had her at age 15. Her father is David Dunn, who never participated in any of the reality television shows.

Anna has three half-sisters, Jessica “Chubbs” Shannon, Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird, and Alanna “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson. Anna is a mother of two.

Anna’s first daughter, Kaitlyn Elizabeth, was born when Anna was still a teenager. It is not known who the father is. She shares daughter Kylee Madison with ex-husband Michael Cardwell.

Anna is currently dating Eldridge Toney. The couple had been trying to conceive before Anna’s cancer diagnosis. She suffered multiple miscarriages.

“It’s been a long, bumpy road for us. It’s been difficult. I don’t make enough progesterone. I don’t have enough in my system, so it keeps the baby from getting enough nutrition,” she explained to The Sun in 2021.
