The personal chef of former President Barack Obama has sadly died in a possible drowning incident. Tafari Campbell was reported dead on Monday in what's being called a paddle boarding accident. He was near the Obamas' Katama estate in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts.
Tafari was only 45 years old. He'd been hired on as the personal chef for the family after Obama's presidential term had ended. "When we were getting ready to leave the White House, we asked Tafari to stay with us, and he generously agreed," Barack and Michelle Obama shared in a statement. "He’s been part of our lives ever since, and our hearts are broken that he’s gone."
According to the Massachusetts State Police, Tafari was recovered from a pond by divers a little before 10 a.m. "MSP Underwater Recovery Unit divers made the recovery after the victim’s body was located by Massachusetts Environmental Police Officers deploying side-scan sonar from a boat," the department said, adding the recovery was made "approximately 100 feet from shore at a depth of about eight feet."
